353/365 Angel Tree

Since 1975, I have received a beautiful porcelain angel for Christmas, made by a sweet woman in San Antonio. I received the first one from a friend, then from my mom until she passed away in 1997, and then from my sister, Deborah, to this day. Each angel is unique and is personalized for members of our family. They are very special and I enjoy gazing at them every year.

344/365 Almost looks real

James loves the Dickens Village and sets it up with loving care every Christmas.
I had fun shooting the scenes that he created. This one almost looks real!

343/365 Tree shots

A few shots of our Christmas tree.
I really like the way they turned out, but next time I'll remove the lamp with the light shade since the eye is drawn there first.

342/365 Red birds

Red birds are rumored to bring good luck, so I put at least one on every Christmas tree in the house (I don't really have a zillion trees ;) just the main one in the living room, a small tree in the den, and the tiny tree in the kitchen). I found this gorgeous bird while visiting and shopping with my dear friend, Anita!

341/365 Orchestra Christmas

Every year, since Alex was in the 6th grade, we have attended his orchestra Christmas dinner/fundraiser/concert. This was our 6th year. The food is always good, the raffles are fun (especially since I won two nights at a very nice hotel in a nearby town), and the concert is always excellent!

340/365 Always clean your lenses!

That's right, always clean your lens! My bokeh is so dirty! What a bummer; but a valuable lesson was learned :o)
This ornament was on our Christmas tree when I was a child and brings back wonderful memories!

339/365 Going, going, gone

This idea is from a recent post of The Pioneer Woman, showing Charlie in stages of falling asleep. Here is Porter, our sweet Boxer, doing the same. Thanks Ree!

338/365 Decorating

James and Sam help decorate the tree and it seems to be very serious business!

337/365 A Dignitary and a Mean Green Fan

Today Bill rode as a dignitary in the 40th Annual Richardson Christmas Parade! We are enjoying life in a small town in the midst of the Metroplex. The Mustang Club was out in force to carry the dignitaries, and Bill loved it (the Mustang and being a dignitary, a new role for him). NETWORK Community of Ministries is a city-wide outreach center that provides food, clothing, school supplies, etc. to those who are in need.

Bill sees me in the crowd!

Back in dignitary mode!

Then, we spent the afternoon and evening with Amy and Scott, at the last UNT game of the season! Rain was pouring down and the Mean Green was pouring points across the goal line, as we watched from under the overhang of the top layer of the stadium. Thanks A & S, we had a great time! Sorry you have to look up my nose... =]

336/365 Hanging Christmas Lights

Bill and James hang the blue lights!

"Thank goodness I combed my hair, Mom." I love this boy!

335/365 My first official walkabout

This evening I strolled down Main Street in Grapevine, on my first photo walkabout, with six other gals who had varying degrees of camera experience and expertise. Barbara, who owns Legacy Studios, guided our photographic efforts! Here are a few of my favorite shots. Can you find the elf on the shelf? I even saw Santa on a shelf - I guess Grapevine really needs watching over! (tee hee)

334/365 Playing with Lights

I love Christmas Lights! There is something magical about all the colors against the night sky.
Here is a nice shot of some while using a tripod, with my 18-55mm kit lens... (f/4 ss5" ISO100)

Then, I took the same shot while turning my zoom lens...

And then I tried it again... The only difference between these two shots is how fast or slow I zoomed in. Pretty fun!

333/365 Night Safari

A Night Photo Safari was included in the price of a photography course taught by Barbara of Legacy Studios and DFW Photo Safaris, and featured on Groupon a while back. The evening was chilly when my friend Jeff, and I went on location. Plus, my tripod, which I had not used in at least 10 years, was broken (later I was telling James about the tripod and he said "Yeah, Alex and I had great times playing with that!"). Anyway, I managed to get a few decent shots - these two of the Dallas skyline were taken 15 minutes apart, as you can see on the clock in the far distance, with my white balance set to fluorescent lighting and of course a long exposure time.

A little later we had some photo fun!

326/365 Pilgrims

While in San Antonio earlier this month, Deborah and I happened on this sweet pilgrim couple.
We each bought one to add to our fall mantel decorations.
Every time I pass by them, I am thankful for those first pilgrims who made our great country home for their families and for our own families.

239/365 Seventeen

Seventeen! We celebrated, one day after the actual date, with a dinner of grilled salmon, rice, stir-fried broccoli, watermelon, and an ice cream cake.
Happy Birthday, Alex!

238/365 More football

Deb and Mike came up for a visit and we were able to go to the  Friday Night Mustang football game. I have never been hotter in my life, plus Alex didn't even get to play! He said it was 115 degrees on the field! Today is Alex's birthday too, but we are going to celebrate tomorrow since he was at school from 6:15 am until 11+ pm!

237/365 Pain

Mustangs win! But, not without pain. Thank goodness this was a muscle pull and not something more serious.

236/365 Bad picture day

The only shot I took this day! Bill and I were attending the football kick-off event at Alex's high school. This is the point when they introduced the players. Alex is in the middle toward the back.

232/365 Clouds

I told Alex to grab the camera and see if he could get a shot of the beautiful clouds with the light on them. I was driving... I love this shot with the clouds and all the lines and signs!

231/365 Manual mode (again)

Back in May, I could not, for the life of me, figure out why the majority of my shots in manual mode were not in focus. Sooo, I put my camera back on auto focus, and I've been in a funk about this since then. Well, today I went in for my regular eye exam and there is definitely something going on with my right eye, so I will see a retina specialist on September 1st. All that to say that I had never thought about the problem being with just one eye. So at lunch today, I changed the camera once again to manual mode and captured this shot of Alex while focusing with my left eye instead of the effected right. I CAN focus! Woo hoo! Too bad I didn't remember to change the white balance setting... :o)

226/365 Powerpoint

At church today we celebrated 30 years of our organist/choirmaster's talent and dedicated service! One of the choir members made a wonderful AND hilarious powerpoint presentation (this shot is of one of the slides). Thanks Carol!

224/365 Knee braces

Football is king here in Texas; we all know that. Another fact that offers proof of its reign is that every offensive lineman on Alex's team (he's #69) is provided with knee braces. For this I am very grateful, since he probably wouldn't wear them if I bought them for him to wear. :o)

223/365 Mystery Photo

Do you ever have photos on your memory card that are a mystery? I seem to remember James asking if he could borrow my camera... I really like this shot and I'm not sure who captured it since the perspective is from the passenger seat in James' car (maybe his girlfriend, Sam?). I applied a Lomo camera effect and love how this draws the eye to the cross.

221/365 Heirloom saved

This is the "before" picture of my heirloom chair that our Blue Lacy, Molly, chewed. She chomped both sides of the chair and matching couch. A friend (thank you Letty!) told me about a furniture refinisher/restorer who might be able work wonders. I called...

Today, Paul delivered the restored and reupholstered chair. I am thrilled! I think they did an amazing job! Can you believe the difference?

I am so thankful that I had them restored (thanks Bill, for urging me to do so)!
The couch will be finished soon and I am having some accent pillows made too. I don't think I have ever been so coordinated (thanks to you Penny).
Call Clark's Furniture Revival, 972-480-0310, if your furniture needs help and your in the DFW area!

213/365 It's Too Darn Hot!

While my phone camera did not focus very well, I think you get the point!

203/365 Settling in

Considering that we recently moved to a new home, this is very accurate! Now y'all, tell me, am I really selfish and eccentric? Be nice and don't say anything about my little rooster! =]

Thanks to Jay and Mindy for the shot idea!

201/365 New bedfellow

Bill left for Uganda two days ago, and look who's made himself at home in Bill's spot in our bed! Porter, you are too cute!

199/365 Off to Uganda

Bill took off today on a mission trip in Uganda! What an exciting new adventure for him and the other missioners (a few are pictured here: Marissa, Toni, & Susan). The youth and some adults from our church have been going to Uganda for a number of years, but this is Bill's first time. Prayers are much appreciated.

Love you and miss you already!

198/365 Wren

Well darn! I wish my focus was better on Wren's sweet face, but I did capture a great smile on grandma's face! I sang with a small ensemble at church on Sunday and during the second service, I couldn't help but play a little (we are in the balcony) since I'd already been through the service earlier. :o)

197/365 HP7P2

It's Bill's & my 28th wedding anniversary and Bill, Alex, Liam, his sister and parents, and I are sitting on the floor, waiting in line to see Harry Potter 7, Part 2 - the final installment, in what has been an awesome ride! Only a few minutes later the line wound around in front of me. The only books I have ever re-read (exception being The Holy Bible) are the Harry Potter books. I've seen all the movies, of course, and this one was a superb finale!

192/365 Phones

We met our friends, Anita and Johnny, tonight for dinner. Anita had finally gone the smart phone route, and so we all pulled out our phones to compare the iPhone with Android. Johnny had us in stitches trying to MAKE his phone be "smart!" Thanks for a fun evening!
