58/365 Knowledge

Alex has reached the magical age where he now knows EVERYTHING! Do you remember when that happened to you? As you can see from this photo, he is imparting some of his wisdom...to me!

57/365 Buds

Bill and Tony have been the best of friends for 26 + years! This shot was taken on New Year's Eve 2010, with my iPhone. Tony, Kathy, Bill, and I met at Gruene Hall to listen to one of our favorite bands, The Belleville Outfit. Tony & Kathy introduced us to this band's music a while back and we have been hooked ever since!

Joy of Love 26: The bromance

I had not heard the term "bromance" before today's prompt and I had to ask around for the definition. There seems to be quite a few ideas as to what the term means, but my favorite explanation was, "girls use the term 'girlfriends' to describe their female friends, but guys don't use 'boyfriends' to describe their male friends, so it's just an attempt to provide guys with a word." Hmmm...'buddies' works for me...just sayin'.

56/365 The Host

We celebrate communion every Sunday in the Episcopal Church, and Bill, who is a priest, consecrates the bread and the wine. You are looking at the bottom of the chalice, that holds the wine, and the paten, that holds the bread, with a priest host (bread) in the paten. After we, the congregation, say the Lord's Prayer, Bill breaks the consecrated bread. He breaks the host into four pieces and gives communion to himself and the other clergy before the congregation. For as long as I can remember, Bill has saved a quarter of the priest's host to give to me when I kneel at the altar; the congregation receives a smaller disc nof unleavened bread. I'm pretty sure there is no theological basis to this gesture, but I feel so special and loved, and, that each week he is affirming our love for each other, our marriage vows, and that we are one in Christ.

55/365 Where we met

Joy of Love 24: Where

I first met Bill in church. I was a paid soloist at the church where Bill was hired as an assistant, just out of seminary. This photo of a photo is Bill on our wedding day, leaning against a stone pillar in one of that church's alcoves. He was 29 and look, his hair was already turning white!

54/365 Farewell TM

Today was James' last day working at Tuesday Morning, Inc. so we just had to get a shot with his TM shirt and nametag. He starts a new job tomorrow at Pet Supplies "Plus"! f/1.8, 1/125s, ISO200

Joy of Love 23: Facebook
Today's prompt is to post a favorite Facebook photo of my loved one. I love this shot from February 2009, of Bill and James in Honduras. Bill is one proud dad! I found this one in Bill's Facebook profile.

53/365 Brothers

I just love these boys!

Joy of Love 22: Portrait

Photo: This shot was taken last summer (2010). I didn't take it, but I did do a little editing.

52/365 Tickling the Ivories

James composes and plays his music everyday, many times throughout the day. He uses his keyboard in his room and also my piano that belonged to my mom. We are blessed with his talent!

Joy of Love 21: Hands

Photo: Besides the dust on the black keys (oh noooo!), I like the way this turned out. I am still working with the selective focal points...sometimes it happens the way I wanted.

51/365 A Pink Tongue

Joy of Love 20: When they're home

Porter, our sweet Boxer, and Molly, our sometimes sweet Blue Lacy, escaped the house today. They were gone quite a while before we realized they were gone. I was just going to look for them when they came bounding up to the front door (thank goodness)! Here is Porter, sacked out after his romp. He always sleeps with his tongue out...too cute!

50/365 Positive Aspect

I'm very glad that Bill is home from his mission trip; he was gone for two weeks! There is, however, a positive aspect of his being away...the toilet seat was always down in our bathroom! Sigh...

Joy of Love 19: When they're gone

Photo: As far as toilet pictures go (this is my first, and maybe my last, one), I guess it's OK. I focused on the greenery so that the potty was a bit fuzzy. I didn't think we needed detail in this shot. :0) f/1.8, 1/125ss, ISO 6400

49/365 Going out

A very kind friend and member of our church gave Bill and I, at Christmas, a very generous gift card to Lawry's The Prime Rib, so tonight we dressed up and dined at this wonderful restaurant. Neither one of us had ever eaten here and we definitely enjoyed every minute, from the 2008 Van Duzer Pinot Noir (I had just read that 2008 is Oregon's best year for Pinot Noir to date, with wines receiving 95-98 ratings!) to Prime Rib and Salmon. Thank you Mary Jo, for a lovely evening.

48/365 Vino

Occasionally, Bill and I will have a glass of wine together at home, in the evening, when we are free from meetings. This is a time to just "be" with each other. Sometimes we chat and then other times we don't - we are comfortable together.

Joy of Love 17: Staying in

47/365 Cupcakes

I love this photo of Alex gazing adoringly at the cupcakes that his girlfriend made him for Valentine's Day! Love is in the air (he wouldn't let anyone else have one and he had already eaten half of them)! f/4, 1/100, ISO 400
I am taking a break from "Joy of Love" today since the prompt is to shoot Bill and I together, and he only this evening flew in from Honduras. Maybe I can get that shot later!

46/365 Kiss

I realized this Valentine's Day, that I am not my sons' Valentine any more. Well, maybe in a mom/older son kinda way, but it's not like those glorious younger days when they wanted always to be with me. Yes, I felt a pang of loss for a minute or so...and then I was filled with gratitide that both boys are developing into fine, loving, caring young men.

Joy of Love 15: Kiss

Photo: Not as sharp as I would have liked, but I love the sweet look on Sam's face. James is kissing her so tenderly. f/2.2, 1/125, ISO 3200, 50mm

45/365 HVD!

Joy of Love 14: Wedding Band/Jewelry

My true love is not available at the present time, so I photographed my ring. All wedding rings have a story and mine is no exception. This ring symbolizes so much love in my life! Happy Valentine's Day, Bill! f/5.6, 1/160, ISO 800, 50mm, cropped

44/365 Routine

Nothing says routine more than Bill's alarm clock! Notice that the phone's time is 11:07 pm, but his clock's time is 11:19...a 12 minute gap. How many of you do this? Is it to make sure you are on time? Maybe I better try it! Crummy picture - se la vie! f/2.5, 1/125, ISO 3200

43/365 My Guys' Eyes

Wow! I love looking at their eyes! They each have such expressive, beautiful eyes! Bill's shot was taken in natural light, at dusk, in Puerto Rico, a few years back (f/2.8, 1/160, ISO 80). James' and Alex's photos were taken today facing the light from a window. f/2.2, 1/200, ISO 400

42/365 Talent

James is talented in many areas. He is a gifted musician, the natural talent of which I have never seen or heard before. He composes beautiful pieces at the piano. He also loves to cook and he creates the majority of his dishes. Tonight he made grilled tilapia with an onion and red & yellow pepper sauce, saffron rice, steamed broccoli, and blueberries! James dreams of making a living doing what he loves.

Joy of Love 11: Dreams

I was really trying to focus on James' creation but missed the mark. I took quite a few shots but we all wanted to eat, so I had to stop. =] However, I really like the focus being on his hands.

41/365 Holy Space

f/4, ss1/100, ISO800, flash, 50mm
Joy of Love 10: Space - where they are comfortable

Bill is so comfortable as a minister (priest) in service to our Lord, Jesus Christ. He is an extremely gifted leader, preacher, and shepherd of the flocks that he has been called to serve. This shot, a statue of young Jesus, with his parents, Mary and Joseph, resides at the back of The Church of the Epiphany, where we currently serve. I love the halo above Jesus' head from the spotlight.

40/365 Gaming

f1.8, ss1/125, ISO800, 50mm

Today was the fifth "snow day" for Alex; four last week and today! Here he is working very hard at "gaming" which, in addition to football and his girlfriend, he is passionate about.

39/365 A Stockingful

f2.2, ss1/80, ISO3200, 50mm

Joy of Love 08: Gift from the heart
I am enjoying the *Joy of Love* photo prompts not just because they are fun, but also because they require me to really think about those I love. I am so thankful for ALL the *gifts from the heart* that I have received: children, oodles of love, compassion, forgiveness, respect, and surprises!
This past Christmas James (20) filled my stocking! He told me that he felt bad that he, Alex, and Dad always had full stockings and Mom did not. I had no idea what was in my stocking that day and I was full of glee as I pulled each gift from my stocking. There was a rooster coffee scoop, a gift set of flavored lip balm, a small glistening cross, and more. I was so touched that James picked out each gift with me in mind. This was truly a *gift from the heart*!
I took this picture today, so that meant that I had to find the box of decorations that contained the stockings! :o) Mine is that snowman with the pink hat, also a gift from James (a mouse ate through my childhood stocking a few years back)!

38/365 Prayer

f5.6, ss1/60, ISO200, 50mm
This shot of Bill with his mom and dad was taken Thanksgiving weekend 2010. I chose this photo today because Vince is currently undergoing treatment for throat cancer and both he and Ruth need our prayers. Thanks.

37/365 Super Bowl

Alex loves football! He plays for his high school, loves the workouts, loves the game, loves the coaches, and loves the adrenalin rush. Today we went to our youth group's Super Bowl party. It seems that Alex now has a football either attached to his head, growing from it, or maybe it's a new hat! =] A good time was had by all. Thanks Barbara, for hosting the party! You rock!
Besides football, Alex loves me (of course, he-he), his dad, his brother, his grandparents, the rest of the fam, and his friends. Alex loves life!
Joy of Love 06: The ones they love
I gave up on manual mode at the party. The lighting was low and I couldn't get a good read on my light meter. I added a little saturation when I was editing...I'm still playing with spot metering and selective focal points. Fun!

36/365 Maps

f14, ss1/60, ISO3200, 50mm

Joy of Love 05: What you LOVE to hate
Today's assignment was to capture something that one of my loved ones does that just drives me nuts or that embodies the idea.
Bill is Mr. Map. He spends extended periods of time taking imaginary "trips" using his maps. Don't get me wrong, I think this is a really awesome thing and very creative! The problem comes in where he spends his time taking these trips...yes, you guessed it, the bathroom. And of course, he is on a "trip" at exactly the time when I need the bathroom (aren't you glad I didn't post a picture of the toilet? TMI?)! We have been married for 27 years, and "trips" have always been a part of our life together, both real and imaginary. Is it a big deal? No. Do I hate it? No. Is it annoying? At times, but it is SO him and I LOVE him...a whole bunch!

35/365 Cold Feet

f5.6, ss1/125, ISO400, 130mm

James loves his Fallen shoes. Wait a minute ... Hey! James! Those are not for walking in the snow! I bet your toes are chilly!

Today is the fourth day of temperatures in the 20's AND the fourth "snow day" - unheard of in these parts!
I learned about histograms this week. I don't want to be obsessed about this, but what about shooting pics in the snow? My histograms are spiking on the right...big time.

34/365 Hearty

Both photos: f10, ss1/60, ISO3200

We are on Day 3 of below freezing temperatures with lots of ice still on the streets! I thought this was a perfect time for some Irish stew! A while back, our family spent six weeks in Ireland. We enjoyed many bowls of stew at the various pubs and loved every one. I was able to find a great cookbook at a book shop in Clonakilty and since then have always followed the stew recipe contained in that little book. I am transported back to Ireland just by the aroma of the stew cooking. Ahhh...I have to say I love Irish stew!
Joy of Love 03: Then and Now
Today I took a little license with the photo assignment. I made "before cooking and after cooking" photos of my stew, since my main man is not available for a photo shoot! lol
