120/365 Mitzi & King

Both times I have been on this mission trip, I had the extreme pleasure of staying with Mitzi, her sons, King & Gus, and her mom, Rae. They are the most gracious hosts and have become dear friends!

Mitzi is the queen of caulk!

Surprised King while he was vacuuming!

119/365 Mission Trip

Today I, with about 30 other folk, began our mission trip in a small community about 3 1/2 hours away. This is the third trip for many of the group (my second), where we are doing whatever we can to help the local food bank, Loaves & Fishes, to renovate the building in their new location.

118/365 Textures

Not a great shot, but I was trying to capture the many textures in this banner. Hmmm...composition?

117/365 Chaos

Look at this traffic jam; this is why I arrive at Alex's school, at least 10 minutes before the final bell rings! I took this shot from inside my car. :0

116/365 Spring Football

Time to gear up for spring football! Bill and I attended the mandatory parent meeting to hear from the head coach. He introduced the 10 or so assistant coaches and trainers (!), and talked about what is expected of each of us as well as Alex. We then split into groups corresponding to Alex's grade level next school year (11), to hear about volunteer opportunities for the fall, getting advertising for the (huge) program, spirit wear, and the Booster Club! We knew what to expect this year since we are in year two of high school football, but I remember how overwhelmed we were at this time last year. It will be fun to watch Alex play Varsity on Friday nights!

115/365 Malfunction

The washer overflowed today, and yes, it was a hassle taking the wash to the laundromat, but everything was done at once! I had forgotten how nice it is to have ALL the laundry finished in a couple of hours! The cost is through the roof though! How do people afford this week by week?

113/365 Nieces & Nephew

I didn't take this one but I think it is so sweet. My sister took this shot with her iPhone. My niece, Liz, is in the background, then Kelsey, my great niece, and then my great, great niece, Katlyn, and my great, great nephew, Kolter! Crazy, since my own children are 16 and 20!

112/365 Good Friday

Even though I want to jump ahead to Easter, it is important to reflect on the events that are remembered on this day for so many Christians. Such a sacrifice God made for me, for you, for all of us. Think of the physical pain of Jesus; think of the mental anguish of his mother, Mary. Thank God we know the resurrection is just a few days away!

111/365 Charlie

Hmmm...do you name the critters you see? I usually don't but I find myself enamored with them when I'm scrutinizing their photos. I had a time shooting Charlie; I'm thinking my shutter speed was set too slow.

110/365 Primroses

Primroses are so pretty and there was a small field full of them! I must remember though to check the ground before I plop down to take shots; those ants were angry with me!

109/365 First Fruits

So often I think our small garden is growing very slowly but today I was able to pick some of our radishes! Remember that vegetable gardening is pretty new for me...what I learned: I need to plant several rows of radishes in order to reap enough to share at the food bank!

108/365 Rain!

I am so thankful for the rain today! I am praying and hoping for a "real gully washer" for the rest of the state!

107/365 Rrrring!

Alex enjoys playing the "big" bells in the bell choir! I think he is one of but a very few who can lift them and make them ring.

106/365 A Gourd

I spent a few days with my sis and was watching the wildlife on her deck! Caught this sweet bird as she was feeding her babies in the gourd! She is sitting in the entrance.

105/365 Necessary procedures

When you arrive at the magic age of 50, you get to have new and exciting, necessary medical procedures! This was routine for Bill, with no problems.

102-104/365 Azaleas

No visit would be complete without seeing the Azaleas,
lunching at a fun spot, and doing a little shopping!

101/365 Sis

Sisters are wonderful, ya know...? My one and only (Deb) traveled 5 hours just to see me perform.
She also took a turn at watering our plot in the community garden! She's helpful like that...

85-100/365 Another Openin' Another Show

WOW! What a wonderful, talented group of people with whom to perform! I have been involved with the Troupers since 2004 and our shows are always fun and demanding! We are so fortunate to have a first class director at the helm. Thanks, Bruce, for being you! This year he asked me to co-direct our Broadway revue, along with a very talented gal, Helen. Bruce still did the bulk of the work, but we are trying to lighten his load!

All proceeds from the show went to help fund our Vacation Bible School and the youth mission programs (Uganda, Colorado, Summer in the City). After all the bills were paid we were able to give these groups $2400!

About the photos: Yikes! Shooting in the dark is tough! The photos below are some of the best shots I was able to get the night of our final dress rehearsal. Unfortunately, I did not get shots of everyone in the cast and crew, and there were some shots that were so blurry or otherwise so bad, that I did not post them. Of course, the photographer doesn't get in too many shots, but, in this case, that meant that the ensembles I was singing with did not get in those shots either. :0(

"You have much to learn, young grasshopper." Yes...I do.

Where oh where has Melissa gone?

Well ... I'm still around and will post again soon. I've been busy with a Broadway Revue and then with computer issues. I haven't taken a photo every day, but I have enough photos to fill my missing days, so I will get them up as soon as I can. I am without a computer for several days since the data from my old one is being transferred to the new one! It has been 6 years since I've had a new computer, so I feel like I've morphed into a whole new world! Wow! Until then...
